During this week, covid was quarantined within the bunkhouse. Since I was negative, I was able to go out on the water on Wednesday 9/14/22. There were a few individuals with side markings, damaged dorsals, different coloration, and multiple calves (including calf with possible fetal folds). Carly's SD card was collected, meeting with Debbie and Marc deciding on FinBase, and explanation of catalog excel sheet for summer, now, and past few years (3-4 trips per year in past years). Marc also mentioned the potential of Serena and I presenting a poster at the Alaska Marine Science Symposium during Jan. 24th-27th. That would be so exciting!

On Thursday, we canceled class to see a younger adult humpback whale 10-20 meters off the shoreline, a steller sea lion, stormy petrals, two harbor seals, and 5-10 sea otters. In addition, we did the Beluga Count, water testing, eDNA, and AKBMP on Saturday. We saw a group of around 12-15 belugas, 3 calves, and one possible neonate. It was incredible! I got a photograph of the possible neonate and a beluga with a silver salmon (I think) in its slipstream, attached below.
